About Theatrius

Theater is for everyone—and it should reflect everyone.

Our mission is to explore and review live performances through a lens of cultural awareness, social relevance, and artistic integrity.

Founded in 2016 by SF Bay Area Theater Critics Circle member Barry David Horwitz, Theatrius has grown into a platform for thoughtful and accessible criticism. Through in-depth, reflective reviews, we aim to make theater criticism more inclusive, more representative, and more connected to the people it serves.

From bold new works in intimate black box spaces to reimagined classics on larger stages, we are committed to amplifying diverse voices, inclusive stories, and underrepresented perspectives across the San Francisco Bay Area theater scene.

Our youth-driven series—The Next Act—features reviews by a new generation of theatergoers, including high school and college students. These writers bring fresh eyes and lived experience to the stage, viewing both classic and contemporary works through the lens of today’s social and political realities.

We’re always looking for curious, passionate writers to join the conversation. Theater reflects the world we live in—and we’re here to help tell that story.
